This track was a UK No.1 for three weeks in 1960, it reached No.3 in the US. Jimmy Jones (b. 1937 Birmingham, Alabama) is still highly regarded as an influential character on modern music. His use of falsetto voice in R&B/pop directly influenced Del Shannon, who in turn influenced The Bee Gees disco orientated tracks. There is a great video of Jimmy Jones performing his other well known hit 'Handy Man' live and it shows why people warmed to him; a real charismatic entertainer and showman. There is good info about him on the internet also - http://www.jimmyjones.com/Life.htm

  • how can people dislike this? Nine haters to great music -__-. Shame :/

  • I can never get enough of his music, loved him then and still love him now. ROCK AND ROLL was king and I still haven't heard anything I like better.

  • I love the way he hit the high notes ... love the chorus when he goes "Timin' ... a tick a tick a tick a tick ... timin' ... a tock a tock a tock a tock"

  • This was no. 1 in the uk the day I was born. Perfect timin'

  • Still have the original of this in my 60s collection, what great days when he was around.I remember the people concerned with this song saying it would be a hit even before it got released, and they were right. The truth is ,is that the 60s era was a one off and will never be repeated however hard they try, apart from the fact that nobody these days seems capable of getting anywhere near.

  • @barrygioportmorien1 Lou Christie copied this guy.

  • I was madly in love with "my first love" when this hit the radio. Great memories from a great song and singer.

  • @JoeGreevess Times change; when I went to school you wound up in the principal's office if they caught you listening to this!

  • Gréât song lové this song

  • One of the greatest of all Rock n' Roll songs, it and "Handy Man" by a very underrated singer. I never get tired of hearing either of them.
