Was Mr. Snarky saying things grow faster, or more plentiful or both?

I subscribed and I look forward to the results of your race! lol

Great project, Aron! Are you taking bets on who is going to win? I'm pulling for the aquaponics...duh ;-) Looking forward to future videos

My self watered container has taught me that constant water to the plant is the way to go for germination. I am thinking of using the self watering containers for the starting point for the plants I transplant out into other beds. Thanks for sharing your setup.

I just looked and my calendar to verify and for the record, the SF seeds were planted two days before the AP seeds. That's not a huge head start but we gotta keep this fight clean. Also, I think I could have been more clear regarding the tomatoes. I planted some in peat pots that I'm keeping in the house. Those pots are filled with the SF medium (aka "Mel's Mix). Two days later, I planted the same cultivars of tomato in the aquaponic beds. So far, neither has sprouted.

interesting. i would say the aquaphonic will likely do better in the start but what i can say you should also test as well is the taste? same stuff but what is the better tasting fruits and veggies. my dad claims that aquaphonics doesn't taste as good as soil grown foods. he also claims trace minerals that we can't get out of the water will be in the soil grown food.

@niffer58 Excellent point. My wife and I were just talking about this and we plan to do some blind taste tests if the timing allows.

Does the Aquaponic system have an advantage being in the green house where it is warmer?
UKBB 1 year ago
@UKBB I think that may be part of what's at play. If I had to guess, I'd think that the main advantage at this juncture is the constant moisture. I've noticed in the past that the aquaponic system is a veritable sprouting machine; seeds sprout mega-fast in there.
Meanwhile, I've noticed that it's a challenge to keep the SF garden moist. The growing medium is super-friable, which is probably great for roots but the moisture seems to evaporate pretty quickly.
