  • I believe the Pirates have the distinction of being the last home opponents for the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants, as well as being the first home opponents for the New York Mets...twice...at both the Polo Grounds (1962) and Shea Stadium (1964).

  • @1985OldSkool you are correct! and (i believe) on all three occasions, the pirates won. thanks for watching!

  • The Pittsburgh Pirates played the last games at the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field in 1957. And When the New York Metropolitans played their first home game at the Polo Grounds in 1962, they played the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates closed down National League baseball in 1957 and reopened it in 1962.

  • @billyk5775 i did not know that! thanks so much for sharing and for watching!

  • @ethelmalley As you can probably tell is that I am a diehard Pittsburgh Pirates fan. I guess that after nearly 20 years of futility that's how a fan of the Pirates has to be. Have a nice day.

  • @billyk5775 you truly have my sympathy there ... sometimes i think the real baseball fans are those that stick with the teams that seem hardest to stick with.

  • As a lifelong Giants fan who has only been alive since they moved to SF, I hate to see the loss of the NY Giants fans of both their team and the fabled Polo Grounds, which had to be baseballs greatest and WEIRDEST stadium.

What a great past the Giants have. And what a great present!

  • @billyk5775 I believe you are referring to the New York METS, not the Metropolitans, the latter a team from the 19th century. The METS are the current New York National League franchise.

  • The story is Giants owner was shown the site for Candle Stick park during the day and it was absolutley beautiful! Being from NY he had no idea how the park would be at night. Anyone from the Bay Area can tell you what it's like at night even in the summer.

  • @ethelmalley The law of averages has to be on the yucco buccos side. The question is when? Also when the Giants moved to SF the 2010 world series was their first world series win since 1954 when the then NY Giants were still playing at the Polo Grounds.
