Europe's Forgotten Citizens: Defending Roma Rights in the Eu

There are between ten and twelve million Roma living in the European Union today -- roughly equal to the population of a medium-sized EU Member State, like Belgium or Greece.
Yet despite the fact that the Roma have played an integral part in European history and culture for over seven centuries, most of us still know very little about them. And what we think we do know is more often than not based on ignorance, prejudice and stereotypes.
This has led to a situation where millions of Roma in the EU today face extreme levels of social deprivation. Unemployment in many Roma communities is rife. Basic education is often lacking and when it comes to health care, life expectancy is well below the EU average.
This report, filmed in Hungary and Spain tries to look at the reasons why anti-Roma feeling has been so ingrained in so many European countries for so long and also looks at efforts being made to remedy the problem.

Because when a population has suffered the consequences of discrimination, they're not on an even playing field. Why did America use a quota system & offer other advantages for years to help African Americans? Because they were shoved into ghettos and discriminated against for a few centuries. The Roma need the same quota system in Europe. I 've lived in Cz for nearly 20 years, so don't give me your "clueless" crap, either. @u2hubbard , just take them all to US. They steal everything: from cars to electric wires and rail road tracks. Recently our govermnment had to reschedule a meeting because there was no electricity in the building -Gypsies stole the wires...It's the only ethincity equalling criminal. THey even sell their babies for 5000euro. I don't think black people do such a disgusting crime.

Look here, you don't see the whole story. Travel to a gypsy village in Romania - obviously they refuse to integrate themselves with Romanians, being gypsies and all - and you'll see gigantic palaces built by the gypsy leaders using money that has been begged and stolen across Europe. There must be a greater reason why every nation with many gypsies doesn't really like them - Romania, France, so on. It's easy being an angel when you live in paradise.

In my opinion European Roma should be all sent to Sri Lanka. It is the best solution. Send them all to airplanes and send them to Colombo airport in Sri Lanka. There they could maintain their culture. And they wouldn't have problems with discrimination there.

here in The Netherlands Roma Criminals got a house and 600.000 euros if they behaved. they goth both and guess what? They don't behave. they threathen and intimidate people, they even use violence against innocents. many people here work hard and do it so every day. they dont get a villa and 600.000 euros or do they!? EU is opressing it's own citizens and gives more rights to strangers.
