Ogof Rhyd Sych - A Caving Trip

Ogof Rhyd Sych is a little visited cave with a fearsome reputation built on the tight, low, wet and arduous passages that you need to pass on the route into the cave. Beyond this however the cave suddenly changes character to reveal 500m of the finest river cave passage in the UK. A fine reward for those thin cavers determined enough to make a visit.

Takdes me back.; I was with the Cave Diving Group when at Bristol Uni and a large group of us plus sherpas arrived to dive this cave only to find the entrance sump merely a duck! The long narrow squeeze we called the 'cave of a thousand pressups' as the keyhole slot precluded dragging yourself along. That plus the notorious corkscrew made it one of my lesst favourite but most reqarding caves. Don't think I could do it now as carry a few extra kilos haha.

@Drgrumps1 This was our second visit. After the first trip about ten years previously we vowed never to go back again, but then decided to do just one more trip to take the photos and video. We now have to go back just one more time to photograph the final river chamber! Bugger.

@MrTobbedj Thanks for your feedback. This was a difficult video to make. Some of the video I took on the way out had to be scrapped because I was so cold I could not stop my hand from shaking.

Hard work, but the end justifies the means as the cave has some of the most pristine stal (not surprising really) in Wales. Love to see the final video and live again my caving days through your eyes.
