  • i've got a question, i want one of these for christmas and i was looking forward for the XT8i or the XT8 normal but the problem was that i did some research about it and found that it is a reflector telescope is there any problem with that, if i buy a Orion telescope like the XT8i will i be able to look at the moons nebulas clusters galaxies planets etc. normally? Thanks!

  • Hi From12togents,

When you say “normally” I assume you mean a correct image and not reversed? A reflector rotates the image, but it’s a simple matter of rotating your star chart or moon map to match the rotation of the image. If you use a refractor with a standard star diagonal, then the image is actually reversed, and it won’t match up to your star chart. So reflectors are easier to use in this regard.

    Thanks!

  • @oriontelescopes Thanks! for answering my question, but if i buy the XT8i will it come with the star chart? do i need to install that to the telescope. Thanks again!

  • Hello,

The telescope comes with a computer program that creates basic star charts to help you locate objects. Simply install it on your laptop or desktop computer. Plus, the Intelliscope Hand Controller will locate objects for you. In addition to these items that come included with the telescope, we also have many different types of charts and maps showing various astronomical objects available separately for purchase.

    Thanks,

    -Ken

  • Can you tell my missus how much I need one of these for me please?

  • Why dosnt it come with the tracker anymore? All i can find is the classic.

  • @oriontelescopes Ok thank you very much Ken for all the help. I'll my XT8i :D!

  • Hello, we have an astronomy app on the iTunes store specifically for locating objects. It’s called StarSeek, and it uses the full technology of the iPhone or iPad to locate objects. Just hold the device up to the sky, and it will show you what you are looking at! I don’t think the iPhone accelerometers are accurate enough to place an object in the fairly small field of view of a medium to large telescope, but it definitely gets you to within the area, perhaps for the finderscope to take over.
