Wake up California. You are being screwed by the public unions in this state. Don't buy the propaganda from the unions. If you see a Fireman in a political commercial, all they want is your money, vote the opposite.

Anyone can choose their career. If we have it so great, welcome aboard! The difference in wage and benefits is wildly different across the state and country. Even in CA some departments make little more than minimum wage, altough some make much much more. It's ignorant to cite facts that are only one sided.

Why not have the govt give everyone a good paying great benefits job too, there is plenty of money to go around, right? Second why not provide an example of a minimum wage fire dept. I can't seem to find one in the LA/OC/SD metro area where average total comp is below 125K per years. Those number come right from the city payroll data.

If you want to see the 125k number, go to any city in the LA/OC/SD metro areas and look at the city payroll records, don't take my word for it. Add in benefits and the numbers is much higher. Also, everyone knows not all public safety personnel are in good shape, so that argument is baseless. Besides I am in far better shape than your average public safety goon.

Just to let you know, the compensation figure didn't get below 200k until I got to over 500 fire fighters down the list. That is just for the Bay area.

@stopthemaddnessnow if you had a brain cell, you would understand that their chief makes 125k a year. their chief has probably been in the department for a good 30-40 years. if you took a minute to scroll through every page of the payroll, you would notice that firefighters start out at a modest 40k a year.

Are their bad and firefighters in the world yes but, you can say the same thing for any job. As for you insinuating that firefighters are uneducated 70% of the LAFd which is the 2nd biggest department in CA. have at least an associates degree not to mention they are cpr, emt wildland red card, paramedic, and firefighter 1 certified. Just curious what your occupation.

Perfect!!! Big reason why CA is so screwed! Let's take Chino Valley Fire, Rancho Cucamonga Fire, and Ontario Fire for instance; A handful of fires a year, mostly car fires, 90% medical calls, and way over the top fire stations and equipment. Plus most of these stations sleep all night. They love signing up for the OT, especially if it's on the truck. Some of these guys are fat ass slobs too. These clowns are laughing all the way to the bank all the meanwhile screwing the taxpayers.

i cant speak for all of us firefighters but most of us do not do it for the money i know there is no1 in my department that do it for the money cause we make pennys
