I think that just the use of the term "nerd" has changed. People who consider themselves a nerd in these times just dont mean it in the way the term nerd was used like 10 years ago - mainly before the internet sort of made it "cool". That a nerd would actually call himself a nerd i think is a new thing (maybe over the last 5-10 years). Its slightly ironic i guess. its just not an insult anymore. There´s nothing wrong with the fact that language changes. its the most naturally thing in the world

I had no idea people pose as nerds. Around here I get made fun of for watching spiderman and batman. I don't really care though because if a person doesn't do what makes them happy their life really isn't worth living.
@schatze78 People pretend or pose as nerds you mean people that pretend to have a certain interest in a single subject, because I consider myself a nerd.

@Scifiiguy No, not that. I'm talking about the people who pretend to be nerds because it's the current trendy thing to do. When the next fad hits, they will cease to be "nerdy" and become whatever the next cool group is.

@ihateslideshows HA! Now I know you've got to see how funny that is coming from a person who left a comment like yours. Be careful in your glass house ;-)

Are nerds really nerds? Nerds today don't study, they get hot flushes over the Tron bikes.
Maybe anything can become a trend if it sells tickets to shit movies.
There's a guy who catches my train who wears media glasses and a coat with a waistband. I try not to judge him, but he looks exactly like a Jack Kerouac fan. Then the other day, he started reading some Jack Kerouac. I know he goes home and reads Stephen King on the toilet.

@BaubleRob I think those are geeks, and that train guy sounds like a hipster who's doing that to try to look cool. Brian described it to me as this, and I may put this in short vid form--a nerd is someone who has interest and opinions on the subjects, but geeks ARE the subjects and take personal offense when you put down their interest. Like Mac users from the 90s and earlier. We nerds are more passive and don't care as strongly as our geek brethren.
