The Gillmor Gang — Kevin Marks, Robert Scoble, Jyri Engestrom, Andrew Keen, and Steve Gillmor — on Google TV or not TV. Recorded live Friday, May 22. 2010.
Another fantastic show as usual. I think Kevin Marks is absolute right regarding Google's future plans of building a Search & Ads Platform on all forms of Media Devices.
If Microsoft or Apple could develop an alternative to Google's future plans, then Google could be derailed.
If I had the money and a hot tech team right now, I could create a new platform which would be a Google Search & Ads Killer?
There is an alternative web business model other than Google's, which I want to start up.
I think I agree with everydaypanos. But its important to understand different scopes of where monetization is needed. One being the provider of the stream (comcast or whatever), another being the provider of the screen (sony), another being the provider of the software (in this case google).
Either google provides googletv free as a means of pushing more users towards youtube (and the ads on those videos) or other video sites that kickback or they figure out how to coax microtransactions.
Services like Rewrd are the future of ads and donations. Monetizing is NOT going to be mainly by ads. Scoble is wrong. Micropayments in a social context is the future.
