It is the first day of spring. I should be outside enjoying the weather. Instead I just feel like toying with the past. Sometimes I just like sitting down and looking at pictures of my family. The pictures awaken lost emotions. As I sat I thought about my brothers. My brothers and I often ride our bikes with a group of neighborhood kids. We like riding together, because it made us feel safe. We often ride to the edge of town to find bumpy dirt roads. The dirt roads that were less ridden were more challenging and exciting to ride. I remember a summer day about a week after I had completed the fifth grade. My brothers and I were riding our bikes down this big dirt road we encounter a group of kids that was already there riding their bikes. There were three of them. The biggest kid of the group wanted to fight us. He was tall and a little chunky. I stood up to his chest. My older brother was slightly taller than me. This kid was huge compared to us. I believed he watched a little too much wrestling. He flicked his blonde bangs away from his eyes. He flexed his muscles and said, "I want to fight all of yall. Hulk Hogan versus the Chinese Express." He was clowning around trying to impress his friends. The other kids that were riding with us started to leave. I didnt really want to fight him. He was huge. I turned and made my way home. Then I saw him lunge for my older brother. My older brother dove for his left leg and was holding on for dear live. My little brother didnt want him to hurt my order brother, so he was kicking his shin. The big kid cocked his arm back to swing at my little brother. A rage came over me. I ran back as fast as I could. The big kid swung at my little brother and missed him. I jumped in the air and executed a flying sidekick. The big kid staggered backwards from the kick. Since my older brother was hanging on to one of his legs, the big kid lost his balance and fell to the ground. My older brother let go of the big kids leg and kicked him all over. I was kicking him in the face. My baby brother was stomping on his legs. The big kid tried to get up. I kicked his arms and elbows so he couldn't get up. It looked like a grasshopper being attacked by a bunch of ants. He bled and cried. His friends just watched. Then a person on his dirt bike drove up and broke up the fight. We told the guy on the dirt bike that the big kid started it. The guy on the dirt bike told us to leave. We gladly left. It was a fight that involved all of us, and none us were hurt. My brothers and I knew that we all cared for each other. Our love for each other was tested that day. I guess we passed. The sun set behind us as we happily rode our bikes side by side. We talked about the fight all the way home.
Love Always,
Darian
