Proving Jesus to a bunch of atheists

A Christian who comes to our freethinkers group at my old college campus tried to convince us that Jesus is the real deal. May as well have made the case that Mohammad really flew up into the sky, or that Paul Bunyan actually had a giant blue ox. Better luck next time.

Glad you mentioned the bible documenting private, unwitnessed moments. That's been a revelation for me that these accounts are just stories, but I've never heard anyone else think about it in that way. The Garden of Gethsemane is another one. How did any of them witness this account? They were all sleeping!

@CarpetShark2010 I was thinking specifically to when Jesus went to pray by himself and his disciples fell asleep, and when the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness when nobody was around. With a little digging, I bet we can find more...

Our earliest manuscripts of the New Testament are dated hundreds of years later than the events they claim to describe. This alone should be enough to make Christians doubt the authenticity of the stories they tell.
