REM at the top of their game; it was all down hill from here IMO.Such a brilliant performance this one (and the MTV performance of same). The lyrics themselves are just 'ok' IMO, but what makes this so transcendent is Stipe's delivery - bang on and he arguably never did surpass it the subsequent years of his career.

One of the best songs ever. Takes me back to being a kid - great stuff. Thank you REM for everything you did.

There's not one song on their last few albums that can invoke such strong emotions than this one. But there are plenty before....

@vuvaladusi And dou you like the last record? :)

Farewell REM. If this song were your only legacy, it would still be worth more than most bands' entire output.

I heard they broke up today... this was the first song I thought of. I never even got to see them... we'll miss them.

this could be the saddest dusk... and this might well be the saddest and best song by REM, if this song doesn't move you , you surely must be already dead

@REMCUREBOY I met him in Chile, and yes, he is ;)

Wonder how mando master Buck would sound if he played Celtic. Hey, if Richie Blackmore could play Renaissance music, Peter Buck could probably play Celtic.

oasis who?
The music, the words, and his voice all carry so much emotional resonance when he sings "My mind is racing". So many bands could only dream of capturing that.

I'm only 27 and this music came out when I was a young kid. These guys are one of the most underrated groups of all time. I think anyone who considers themselves a lover of all music must rate REM among the elite. A truly unique style and sound that is breathtaking and inspiring every time I listen. Their music sends your mind on a winged journey, soaring over God's beautiful creation. Stipe's passion is undeniable. There will never be another REM; as special as the likes of the Beatles.
