From my grandparents' movies, some footage of a trip to Princeton in the spring of 1928. We start out at the Princeton Inn (:20), then tour the campus. We see some construction or rennovation on the chapel. Also see a statue of Andrew Fleming West.

From xpxzampop's note:
Blair arch (and the courtyard... which I guess is just called Blair courtyard haha :P) is seen at 0:23, at 0:35 those arches are part of Foulke Hall, hard to tell, then at 1:23 there's the first shot of the Graduate College, 1:50-2:00 is more Graduate College, 2:00 wow I can't believe I don't know what statue that is, (Andrew Fleming West) the wall after that is McCosh, then the Chapel. At 2:23 the building with columns is Clio, at 2:33 Mather Sundial. 3:02 Nassau Hall. Then Clio again and West College.

  • Very cool. Whig, Clio, West, John Witherspoon, the Chapel, McCosh, Mather Sundial, Blair, the GC, Old Nassau of course... the shot of the inside of the chapel didn't work so well haha but thanks for putting this up!

  • @xpxzampop Great. Can you tell me when we see each of these? Many thanks.

  • @xpxzampop Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. The statue is of Andrew Fleming West. The only reason I know that is the original is much clearer than this version. I wold do these all over again but it's a lot of work and Princeton already has a professionally digitized version of it anyway.

    Thanks again!

  • @lipwak And one other thing. Do people still drive their cars over the paths in the various quads? I can see grounds vehicles and security doing that but students with their cars?

  • I am a Princeton Grad Class of 1976. Thanks for sharing this Princeton History. I recognize many landmarks.

  • You're welcome. I am glad people are enjoying these. That's why I put them up!

    Cheers,

  • Very cool! Thanks for posting!

  • no not really. I mean you could technically do it but there is very very little car traffic on the roads and paths that cut through campus that is not University affiliated. So like you said it's mostly security and groundskeepers that drive there.

PS: I am in training to become a Princeton tour guide so any questions are good practice. Fire away!

  • Oh and I was wrong, the John Witherspoon statue is actually only 10 years old... I will have to get back to you on that mysterious statue

  • That's great--thanks for sharing that!
