http://clearedjobs.net James Dyson, L-3 Communications GS&ES Recruiter, provides tips on things that job seekers typically do wrong at a job fair.

The three most common mistakes I think most people make when they come to a job fair is not doing their home work before they get to a job fair. A lot of times they know what companies are there and they know what jobs they have applied to, but they may not know exactly what positions the companies are really looking for at that job fair.
So, it's a good idea to take a list of all the companies you want to come see, take a look at their current openings, and prep yourself for those openings. I see a lot of people who come and say, "I applied to a job four years ago and I want follow up on that one."
Another mistake is bringing, one singular type of resume if you have multiple areas of interest. You could be a marketing kind of IT person and you have a marketing resume, and you have a more IT based resume as well. Bring both of them. Don't bring one resume and think that you can just kind of spread it around because you may have a certain skill set that people don't know about that's not listed in your resume.
The third thing is trying to give your whole life story to the recruiters when they're at the table kind of talking to people. Typically we have a line that people that we're going through and it's pretty easy if you're in line and you know the positions, you want to ask about those positions, ask about any questions you have specific to the company. Get those answers and then move on to your next one. I know most people don't want it to be an all day affair where you're there from the beginning to the absolute end, so come prepared, have your notes, know who you're going to talk with and talk to them.
