  • Poor Shirley Temple she did'nt understand racism at that timeshe was just doing her job..And hollywood in the 1930's did'nt give a damn about black people as long as it entertained white audience.

  • DON'T ERASE IT! It's historical proof. In Canada they want to ban, "To Kill a Mockingbird." What next? Tom Sawyer? Nigger should be in all the dictionaries. I promoted negros & was called a "light skinned negro" by some & a "nigger lover". "Oh sweetie...you don't know what nigger means at all. It means, "I don't give a s..t that you call me nigger." It means, "I will crawl to the finish line." It is like the male version of the word, "bitch". Be it black or white...it is a powerful word!

  • Lest we forget. This is cinematic history. It shows that racism is learned. A young Judy Garland also appeared in black face. Blacks were allowed to appear in movies with whites but not until roles played by Sidney Poitier did the subservient role attitude began to slowly be broken down.

  • It took three generations or 76 years to get to where we are now in regards to race and sensitivity. I don't think we should look backwards that far into the past and pass judgement for what was then a social norm. Just like I don't think people in the year 2086 should look back at us and pass judgement on us. Yet we know that they will! People evolve and we can expect constant changes in behavioral attitudes. It's what we will become that's important.

  • @runrockwater It is called blackface, black people were not allowed to perform in movies, and on stage so white people would create a stereotyped caricature of a black person. it actually played a significant role in cementing and proliferating racist images, attitudes and perceptions worldwide. later on, black artists also performed in blackface. it was a form in its own right, until it ended with the U.S. Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s

  • I love how shirly got to act with almost all the wizard of oz people ^^

  • I'd be so uncomfortable looking back at this if I were her.

  • They are white people looking black acting like they are black and talking what they think is black.

  • how is it racist?

  • The play they're showing (in the film) is Uncle Tom's Cabin, which was written in the 1800s. It's not surprising it's racist. It's interesting to watch these old films... the sexism is mind-boggling as well!

  • BURN THE NIGGATIVE !!!!! CLASSIC HORROR

  • I wish we could see the entire movie. It is fabulous.
