bravo sir, fantastic model

where do you get "dope" and either that paintjob is stellar or did you not use tissue?

I just bought a Guillows P-38 kit from e bay. I would like to get it to fly R/C like yours. My Dad got me a Guillows B-17 back in 1987-88, or so, from a Smithsonian catalog. And having no skill I just destroyed it.....incapable of even getting it built. I think I am up to the challenge of this P-38 though. I might be asking for some advice on engines and R/C stuff. Cool video. Great skill. I hope to get at this level.

great job!

Cool Miles,
Didn't know that you could fit all of the electronics into such a small airframe but then, I haven't really kept with the hobby like I used to. I have a Guillow's P-38 kit sitting in the closet but I think I'll stick with rubber power for now. : )

Nice job!

@StvErick9 Our local Ace hardware carries the Guillows kits. Just recently they stared carrying Pactra clear dope. I thought the stuff wasn't being made anymore. Just Brodak. bill

boy, you really owned the P-38, it's like you invented it yourself. i mean heck, you might as well have been the creator himself.

Awesome, just picked up the kit because of this video... However, shouldnt the props rotate twards the outside of the plane? used to build these things around 10 years ago, getting back into it now after college... thanks for the vid!
Great job! I'm very jealous... I have this same kit sitting in my basement. I got all the wood parts put together and the covering attached, and then I went back to the store for more dope and found out it wasn't available anymore. So it's been sitting there for many months... What covering/finish did you use? I asked a hobby shop guy about converting to RC. He said that the balsa frame wouldn't hold the kind of covering I'd need... So I'm jealous!

@StvErick9 Hey, First thank You, I would not give up on it. This conversion is very doable. I would suggest joining RC Groups (it's free) and on the scale forum there is an Guillows conversion index at the top. It lists all the Guillows conversions in electric power including my P-38. I covered mine in laminating film AKA PET or Doculam, it is strong and light. blow the dust off and give it a try. -M

were can i get those counter rotating props. They are great.you realy do a great job on your planes. It took me 20 years to learn to build like that. Its a dying art with all the ARFs out there today.i am passing on the knowledge on to my son now and we should try to inspire others to build because its so rewarding

Hey you can get them at Eflitelinedotcom they are Vario's and you just order left and right blades. That is great you are getting your son into the hobby, I agree that making your own is an important and fun skill. You should join RCGROUPS. It is a great source for building and I and others have done some father son threads. Very rewarding. Who can resist "dad can we build a plane" For this build thread on RCG's search "Guillows P-38 I like smoke and Lightning..." All the best 8-) -M

Go Mark! I must have missed this one somehow. Good job!
I have this kit now, a a friend gave it to me, only with a bit of damage to one of the bottom plastic covers, which could be fabbed. I need a good bit of motivation though. Your video just came up, after loading my Guillows Zero video. I replaced the poorly wound GWS motor, that was causing ESCs to nearly glow hot, at any throttle setting. The plane is now a blast, on a BP 370-1300kv motor.

@WTFLYR Bill the Zero is fantastic! Glad you have this kit, i am sure you will make it look awesome. I wouldn't worry about the plastic. I cut most of mine out and didn't use a lot of it. looking forward to your lightning conversion.
Best Mark
