From 1972 comes this funky Biddu vinyl offering from Carl Douglas on the Blue Mountain label. 'Somebody stop this madness' is forever overlooked as punters either clamour for his rare soul 45 'Serving a Sentence of Life' or only know him for 'Kung Fu Fighting'. This meaty slab of funky soul should convince people that he's got much more to offer than that!

  • Great posting! I remember seeing the film Embassy and thinking that would be a good Northern sound, It took me years to actually track down a copy, by which time I was not going to places to hear it. Still avid collector and listener of Northern Soul though. Was this ever played on the Northern scene?

  • @BlackVelvetGentleman: Might have picked up some small plays on the Northern scene, but certainly didn't go big. A bit too funky for the traditional Northern crowd perhaps, but certainly lots of potential for those venues with a wider audience :-)

  • Great tune. This was used as the signature track to the 1972 film 'Embassy'.

  • @railman01 You are correct & the photo of Carl Douglas that you see in this vid is of him posing outside the American Embassy in London's Grosvenor Square...
