So... why did they stop using Half-Tracks for military use?
-
its a combination of good handling(wheels), and good traction(tracks). plus wheeled vehicles tend to have higher speed. it was just a compromise, and apparently it worked well!

OMG this thing is the bomb.
-
@anthilation00dozey but it cost more so they wont do half track :(
-
wish we still made things as well as this
-
@anthilation00dozey Except Iraq is mostly paved roads and wheeled vehicles perform much better. Tracks get worn away very quickly over pavement.
-
Those things can go surprisingly fast. My friend had one and I often got rides with him into town. Max speed is about 80km/h on the open road, but that's amazingly fast for a tracked vehicle.
It is loud though.

Half track's are better than humvee's cause half tracks are moving by tracks that they don't got bogged down in sand or swamps. If US would use half tracks in Iraq probably soldiers that have died could live today.

wheels have good handling and tracks good traction with front wheels u can manuever better
Big things are harder to get stuck,BUT once you get them stuck they are a alot harder to get unstuck! Good looking M-4,M-2s didn't have a back door.

This is the older M2, it doesn't have the back door (it's probably hard to tell from the video). If it gets stuck, fortunately there's a '44 deuce with a winch nearby!
