This is Pamela, a 6 yr old gaited mare. She is a former show horse who has been ridden before but in a severe curb bit. My goal is to ride her bareback wearing just a halter/lead rope and have her be 100% OK with this. I planned to do this by treating her as if she had never been ridden before. I've been working with her once per week for the last several weeks on haltering, leading, groundwork, and preparing to ride. She picked up on clicker training very quickly and it has really helped to gain her trust and willingness.
Appreciate you showing how you prepped a horse to ride bareback. I made the mistake of being given a leg up on my horse bareback, who promptly took off and dumped me. I got hurt and should have known better. Thought he was calm and knew about bareback, but I should have prepped him. Glad to see your way to work towards going bareback.
