Four months after the public hearing in New York City about the horse-drawn carriage industry, City Council Member Tony Avella offers his sympathies on May 11, 2009 to Lori Barrett, Esq., for the shameful behavior of his fellow council member James Gennaro during his questioning of Ms. Barrett. At the hearing in January, Gennaro launched what Avella termed a "tirade" in an attempt to discredit Ms. Barrett's testimony on behalf of the New York City Bar Association. The organization supports Avella's proposed ban of the horse-drawn carriage industry, as outlined in Intro. 658-A, and opposes an industry bill. Gennaro had originally sponsored the weak industry bill (Intro. 653-A), but took his name off--apparently he lacked the guts to defend it, Avella remarked.
