An excerpt of live performance by Ramprapanna Bhattacharya, the highly acclaimed Sitarist of Imdadkhani-Etawah Gharana (which is one of the oldest and most illustrious gharanas of Indian Classical Music which has produced the biggest names of Instrumental Music through each generation including Ustad Vilayat Khan) on Raga Gaoti. He is disciple of his father Ram Udar Bhattacharya, Pt. Kashinath Mukherjee and Pt. Arvind Parikh. He is fortunate to have blessings from none other than Ustad Vilayat Khan. (Though the recording quality is not very good ) This was a live concert at Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal on 17th March, 2007. Tabla maestro Sri Suprit Deshpande accompanied the artist on tabla. The artist shared stage with stalwarts like Pt. Ulhas Kashalkar, Pt. Suresh Talwalkar, Vidushi Malini Rajurkar in this concert. This concert was a Tribute to Sangeetacharya Sadashiv Deshpande.. • Beautiful. This very piece in Gaoti was also played by Vilayat Khan Sahib. Extended raag Gaoti is also available from Imrat Khan sahib and his son Nishat Khan. BTW any relation of this sitarist to Indraneel Bhttacharya (another sitar great!).

  • Hi,

Two of the gats have been played by Ustad Vilayat Khan's nephew Shahid Parvez also.

You are right...This Sitarist is relative of Pt. Indranil Bhattacharya...This Sitarist's father is one of the senior most disciples of Pt. Indranil Bhattacharya also.

    Thanks & Regards

  • Kya baat.................

  • OOps I live in Bhopal, but I missed this one..

  • Wow! Ramprapanna, what a beautiful and magical rendition of raag Gaoti. I am so impressed with your presentation.

I closed my eyes and I felt that perhaps someone from the late Ustad Vilayat Khan or Ustad Shahid Parvez was playing.

You were brilliant and if you had entered into any competitions, online or otherwise, you would have won.

Many thanks to Kishori ji for uploading it for the connoisseurs.

  • Very nice...

I suggest you upload the same in 'Dynamycdesi'.It is a online talent contest site for people and gives an award to the 'Best Talent'.

  • Right Rageshree i already heard this gat on a Vilayat khan record,a pont of uniqueness is the laya of the gat which is in sawai meaning one and a quarter times the tempo of the tintaal cycle played on tabla. The rhythm of the gat moves

independently of the tempo of tje tabla, yet coincides on the sum.

  • Nice taanwork. What about some aalapi.

  • wow! quite exemplary. This raga is one of my favorite esp when played on a stringed instrument - sarod, sitar, santoor , guitar and so on. kindly mention the name of hte artist who accompanies you on the tabla.

  • Wonderful, keep it up!
