In the past 100 years, the New York subway system has grown from a nine-mile line to a four-borough system and one of the most vital elements is the signal system. This episode joins the students of the signal school in New York as they learn to master everything from century old manual "interlocks" to latest-generation computerized track-management software. It also examines the safety issues concerning working with electrified rails and massive trains. The episode also follows the emergency management response team as they plot rescues, escapes and re-routing on the fly, in order to ensure the safety of both the riders and workers of the subway.

  • so is london

  • @EJES2000 Since seats on the London Underground are upholstered, they're a lot less hygienic. A number of stations in the underground are more aesthetically appealing, but many others, like Queensway, aren't anything special. • To all those who talk about older subway systems or more modern subway systems, you miss the point. NYC is the only city in the U.S. where people can get around at all hours without a car. I'm not sure that the statistic they site of 75% of New Yorker not having cars is true, that might only be in Manhattan. Still, a whole heckeva lot of people don't own cars here, and don't feel they are missing anything. It's amazing how many adults here don't even know how to drive. That's says a lot about h

  • MEGA SHITTIES!!!!!

  • london underground is old, and by the looks of things, more hygienic and more appealing... i happily take the underground in london, whereas i would relentlessly take the new york subway...

  • @LeeGeorge08 Are you serious? Are you freaking serious? Don't fucking come to a video you know you disagree with just to make your corrupt candy ass feel better. Don't even fucking reply to my comment because I don't want to hear if from your bitch fucking mouth ok? Unlike London, New york has so many good memories so many historical movie events known throughout the world so many classic characteristics so many good qualities back then as well.
