Wanted to see first hand the differences between shotgun spread patterns and penetration using different shotgun loads. Of course shooting a intruder will change the penetration, but a miss ,or strays, off the spread should behave as such.

Firearm: 590A1, 20" barrel smooth-bore, no choke, 9 shot

Ammo: Winchester Super-X: 3 inch, 00 Buck(15 Pellets) Winchester Super-X: 2 3/4 inch, 00 Buck(9 pellets) Winchester Super-X: 3 inch, 1 Buck(24 pellets) Winchester Super-X: 2 3/4 inch, # 2, Drylock Steel Winchester Xpert Hi-Vel: 2 3/4 inch, # 3, Steel Winchester Xpert Hi-Vel: 2 3/4 inch, # 4, Steel Remington Gun Club Target: 2 3/4, # 7.5

  • Thank you so much. I am trying to decide which gun to get and this video has been a tremendous help. I'm thinking I want a .12 gauge pump, probably a Browning. I am a 62 year old lady who isn't afraid of much, but I don't want to have anyone screwing around in the middle of the night. Would I probably do well to choose the 3", Winchester Super X?

  • @parrotland Awesome! Go girl, stand & protect yourself or family! 3” 1 buck shells are nice, little overkill if you live in an apt or congested urbanized area. I keep them loaded “just in case” I go through the first 5 rounds of 2 shot 2 ¾”. A 3” shell can have a little more kick. When you decide on a shotgun, go the range, bring some 3” & some 2 ¾” ammo, shoot & familiarize with it as much as you can. Any browning, rem, mossberg, maverick, more “home defense” based 1 should do.

  • @parrotland Sorry for the delayed reply...and avoid hunting type since they have longer barrels, hold less rounds & can be a little tougher for a small frame to manage.

  • Where are you guys? Reminds me of Troy, NC.

  • @flash233 Pretty similar, TN, south east

  • fantastic video! Extremely helpful as to what rounds i'm going to choose for HD. Love your stance by the way, you take the recoil like it's a 5.56

  • @Chewsiffer18 Thank you very much. Glad it helped. I recently installed a retractable kick-lite on it for the wife......she was not fond of the recoil even with a good stance, and since this is my HD gun, I want to be sure she is not shy about sending rounds down range as a result.
