The Oscar-nominated score to the 2002 movie 'Far from Heaven' was the last soundtrack completed by the American composer Elmer Bernstein (1922-2004), and ended a distinguished 50 year career as a movie composer - he is perhaps best known for his score for 'The Magnificent Seven'. Elmer was not, incidentally, related to his near-contemporary Leonard. On the soundtrack the piece (which is the first track on the recording) begins with a piano solo. I have used the published arrangement - and one or two harmonies differ from the recording.

  • stunning piece of music

  • @ladyclyro11 Indeed!

  • 1:35 - 1:44 is such a beautiful transition. So unexpected and heartbreaking.

  • @kswanson920 It is indeed!

  • I was curious when I saw this youtube description show up on the right because I couldn't imagine how Bernstein's enveloping Far from Heaven theme could be reduced to piano. But played as you have, in salon-room fashion, it comes out with a beautiful and unexpected intimacy and charm.

  • @HenryFranconia Thank you very much for that. Not all movie themes work in the published piano arrangements, but I think this one does.

  • thanks for your quick and kind reply.. BTW your playing is emotional and touching.

  • @sh24jame Thanks for your comment. I can't help with that, because I no longer have the score (I used a library copy for the video). Besides, I would run into copyright problems if I were to distribute it.

  • Would it be an impudence to beg to scan this score and send it on mail??

If no i would be more than thnakfull from the distant Tel-aviv

  • @ivalice1980 Thank you. I don't have the score (I borrowed it from a library) but it was in one of the Musicsales' 'Essential Film Themes' compilation books - either volume 2 or volume 4 I think.
