This is Grace Filby's first video clip online during a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship in 2007. The blog is at http://www.amazingphage.info.

Chronic biofilm infections of wounds can be removed naturally and painlessly - e.g. maggot therapy to enable healing to take place. Location: Southwest Regional Woundcare Center, Lubbock. Other strategies include phage therapy (using bacteriophages - available in Poland and Georgia for treating antibiotic-resistant infections including MRSA), surgical debridement, ultrasonic debridement, hyperbaric oxygen, lactoferrin, xylitol etc..

"Roy Rice is keen to let you all know that he was not aware of the maggots moving round at all. He was just glad that the biofilm was being removed painlessly and naturally, rather than having to endure more of the painful process of debridement manually with a sharp scraper. Thank you Roy. Today the heavens opened..."

This patient, Roy, had several traumatic leg wounds. The skin blistered and became infected. He was a US Army veteran. You can read about it here:

He has since passed away, peacefully in his sleep. He donated his body to medical science.

  • I love how in the comment it says he has since passed away...

(Ok that sounded bad i just mean its ironic, its a tragedy...)

It just seems this therapy wasn't very effective if he died. lol

  • @VoreTechz1985 Thanks for posting - the chances are that it kept him alive with relatively painfree treatment for a while longer (6 months) - and after all, everyone dies eventually. He chose not to have the leg amputated because his skin all over was very fragile, and he had very poor nutrition after gastric banding and major weight loss, plus many prescription medications. He was a US Army veteran.

  • Thank you for this informative video.

Perhaps you would consider submitting a video like this, or any other biotherapy-related video, to the BTER Foundation's Biotherapy Video Contest (still open, until Dec 31, 2011). I think you would have a good chance of winning one of the top 10 prizes. If interested, more information at the BTER Foundation website. Whether or not you decide to submit something, thank you again for making this video available.

  • @BTERFoundation

Thanks very much for the suggestion but I don't meet the eligibility criteria - I am resident in the UK and was visiting a USA woundcare center when filming this maggot therapy and phage therapy.

  • @TurkeyMan96
