The next president must systematically reevaluate the influence of non-state actors-- including corporations, nonprofits and advocacy groups--who are increasingly playing a vital role in foreign policy. It's long overdue that our policy makers adjust to this new reality, and finding the proper balance between public and private actors may be one of the most foremost challenges facing policy makers this century.
