In this video, I'm controlling SSL via timecode using our SCS1 plugin. This is how it breaks down...

SSL timecode CD ripped to audio is being played back using our plugin (Ableton Live hosting). Audio out of the SCS.1m and into the SL-1. Both applications are running on the same 15" Intel MBP laptop.

More videos will follow that show more practical uses for this little "hack". Scratch Live doesn't have a lot of MIDI mappable mixer controls, so the SCS.1m can't be utilized as well as Traktor Pro could.

  • Yeah, you're still going to need to buy SSL. But don't rush out yet, because the plug in you see in this video isn't available outside of Stanton right now (it's still a development tool). But hopefully this shows how flexible the SCS1 controllers can be, and what possibly lies ahead for it's users.

  • I wasnt going to rush to spend $700 on ssl. It sucks that i have to buy another equipment to use ssl software. Definitely not the way we should be going! If I buy ssl I might as well buy to real turntables and a mixer. Meaning there was no need to buy the scs1 in the first place. I dont want to sound rude but its the way i see it.

  • We should be going in every way possible. The point of the SCS1 hardware is to be as flexible as possible. If that wasn't the case, we would have designed a locked in software package for it. The more ways this hardware can be used, the better.

Imagine of it were possible to fully utilize the MIDI and audio capabilities of the SCS1 controllers in Traktor, and ALSO map the platter to the timecode engine instead of the still immature platter MIDI messages. isn't that the best of both worlds?

  • I understand bro, and I know the scs1 hardware is capable of A LOT of things and that it is still in development. Its just a matter of software!!! Plus Im not a big fan of ssl anyway. Do you think that in the next update of traktor you guys will be able to skip the "immature MIDI messages" and map the timecode engine instead? And if so what will be the difference?

  • This "work around" allows the SCS1 to be used in the manner you describe. It has nothing to do with SSL - the concept could apply towards ANY DVS software. I just happened to have SSL at my desk to test with. I would LOVE it if software manufacturers already had messaging implemented that could take full advantage of the SCS1, but that's not in our hands. So having a tool like this might be a major asset for many users.

  • Using the SCS1 in this manner feels very much like using any DVS system. The tracking is accurate as long as scratch smoothing is dialed down to 0 on the SCS.1d.

  • @nem0nic Two questions, firstly, is there anyway the timecode could be fed directly into DVS software so you don't have to buy twice as many soundcards just so it can go out and back in. Secondly, why is it only a development tool? alot of users seem to be very frustrated at not having accurate platter control and this atleast works? why not add a virtual soundcard input to DaRouter so people can use the scs.1d as advertised right now rather than continually promising when software implements X?

  • You know, I didn't really see the point of what you were doing, until I read the comments. I also find that the midi control is not as good as time code in a lot of software (in my case, VDJ), but if you go time code, you loose all of your other midi controls, but if you go midi, you loose the better quality tracking..... here, if you could use the time code engine, but still map the midi buttons, that would be pretty cool :)

  • I got to say that Nemonic and the rest of the stanton team dealing with the scs are the best! Just one thing, would i have to buy serato scratch live to make it work?
