The excellent SOG Gov-Tac steps into to fill the void left by the loss SOG Government Agent in the SOG lineup. Like the Agent, the Gov-Tac makes a smart deployment knife choice, that is a knife thats well suited to LBE use by soldiers. A medium sized blade tactical and survival blade, the Gov-Tac offers a several advantages. At 13.4 oz carry weight, it is around 2.0 ounces lighter than most KaBars while still serving up a 6 blade. Made of AUS8 steel, this 6 inch blade offers excellent utility and defensive capabilities with some rust resistance. Other upsides include: excellent jimping on blade spine, hammering capabilities, excellent shaped SS double guard, grippy Kraton handle is roomy for different grips, and good looking grey spacers in handle. The Kydex sheath is excellent and has an improved Hypalon retention strap. This sheath uses the American Sportsman QD attachment which spaces the knife away from your carry platform. Cost is reasonable being around $80 at good outlets like yourcornerstore.com. The Gov-Tac may not be as fast in hand as the Gov Agent (and is 2.0 oz heavier) but it has a better steel and more hand filling grip. The only notable downside would be the lack of sharpness as it comes out of the box. But in most other areas this is a squared away all-purpose blade. As such this knife is a worthy successor to the Agent and is a recommended soldier blade for both combat and utility ops. /////////////Nutnfancy Likeability Scale: 8.5 of 10 (price considered)

  • @johnandrea1234 Oo nice! Glad you got a good deal, too!-- Veri

  • Im lost on which knife to buy...the Gov-Tac or the Sog Seal Pup Elite? What would you recommend? Im mainly using it for personal protection and if i ever get deployed take it with me. Recommendation?

  • @JacobH12333 I asked Nutn and he said that he prefers the Seal Pup Elite..its lighter and fits on LBE better. -- Veri

  • @hoosierarcher thats actually an urban myth.....there actually called fullers.....they make the blade lighter and add i bit of rigidness to the blade in that area....if you don't believe me...ask anyone who knows something about knives....or look it up.

  • Is this knife better than the sog seal team elite? If you already have one, could you also review the seal elite?

  • 4 years later. is there something else i should look at or get this? please let me know

  • the groves on the blade are called bleeder channels. They are there because when you stab some thing the object will begin bleeding immediately because the channels allow the blood or whatever to escape out from arround the blade.

  • G'day Nutnfancy

Which would be the better survival knife out of the SOG Gov-Tac vs Sog Tech Bowie??

  • The Gov-tac is great, but I support the dagger instead.

  • @nutnfancy i know this is old comment, but how about for camping guy? gov-tac bead blast or seal pup elite in TiNi ?

i love the bowie shape but if the bank can afford, bigger blade the better ....right...?

  • This is an old review, but I actually really like how they added jimping, which seems to be for use when you choke up on the knife (which nutn seems to ignore or not realize?).

  • @nutnfancy Alright awesome i actually like this answer, and does the seal pup elite have a metal pommel or no? Does it have a glass breaking ability or skull crushing besides the blade? Or is that kraton as the pommel?
