All foals legs are just about the length at birth, what they will be as they grow up, the legs only have a bit of growing, but the rest of the body has much more.. How old is this mare??? She appears to be overweight significantly to have such a crest and round rump like she has. OBVIOUSLY this isn't her first foal as she is good at trying to get him up to the dinner bar.... HE is a real beauty!!! Hope you are having a great time with him!!!

@HenryDavidT Well his stoach will get lower with age he is newborn so ... Plus the mare is slightly swayback so it makes her stomach lower.

Was it "normal" for a baby to be this tall, right after birth? I've seen some gangly, tall baby giraffes, or wildebeests, whose legs look to be 2/3rd their mothers right after birth. But this little guy's stomach clearance seemed to be even higher than his mother's. Was he just extra tall & his mother somewhat short? Because his legs looked to be roughly 90% his mothers, when he first got up! It must be uncomfortable for him to suckle because of his height. Yes, what a beauty!
