Oklahoma has a growing Spanish-speaking community, and government agencies and businesses want better communication with this community. The degree prepares graduates to translate and interpret from Spanish to English and vice versa, facilitating accurate communication between the individual and the provider. This degree is designed to equip students with the technical expertise to effectively translate and/or interpret business, legal, medical, and health care settings with professional, ethical standards. Graduates find jobs interpreting and translating in public and private sector organizations, such as hospitals, courts, businesses, government departments or as independent contractors. The public is served better by having more qualified interpreters in the field. For example, police officers and hospital workers benefit from being able to work without having to wait for interpreters to be found to help with clients/patients.
