Canzona 33 for 10 recorders by Tiburtio Massaino (c. 1550 - 1609), arranged from the original for 8 trombones by James Howard Young. This 1608 work is for two instrumental choirs. It features the tenor through the subbass recorder.

  • Another excellent performance, James! Although I would have liked to have *seen* the recorders ;) Especially a sub-bass :)

  • @MoscowMaestro Thanks, I might not do this so much in the future. People seem to like the performance videos more.

  • @JamesHowardYoung It's a delicate balance, of course. Especially on YouTube there are a bazillion videos which have a muzak background track... yours have the unique quality of being not only specially created live performances, but featuring *you* on all the instruments ;)) And I play the recorder myself, so some "huge recorder fetish pics" would appeal :))

  • @MoscowMaestro Thanks again for your kind words. I have a Gabrieli video up with the recorders filmed. Have you seen that?

  • Very fine, although I find the recording a bit dry.

  • @JamesHowardYoung Oh yes, one of my faves :)) A neat piece of work indeed. I have to congratulate you on the elegant and thought-out articulation in the Gabrieli - it's the difference between "notes" and "music" :)) And in the Massaino too, of course :) A real pleasure to listen to!
