This video is from our trip to Peru in 2004. It starts off around Lima, then moves south along the coast to Pisco before heading inland to Ayacucho and back to the Lima area for a pelagic trip. After a flight to Cusco, we slowly worked our way down the amazing Manu Road and onto the river as far as Manu Camping Lodge and then back up Manu Road. We then visited Abra Malaga and Machu Picchu before returning to Lima and heading up to the Ticlio Pass, Marcopomacocha and the Santa Eulalia Valley. It was an epic trip, and so is split into 13 parts.

The opening music came about because Guy hummed it every day to annoy the rest of us, so it seemed fitting to use it as we had difficulty getting the tune out of our head during the trip. The reason Peruvian thick-knee is highlighted as "THE" star of the trip, is because one of our party (Boggy) needed it in order to have seen all the world's thick-knees. So although not the rarest or most beautiful of the species we saw, it was the most significant.

We start at Pucusana where species filmed are Peruvian seaside cinclodes, Inca tern and Humboldt penguin. We then move to Pantanos Puerto Viejo where species include many-coloured rush tyrant, grassland yellow-finch, wren-like rushbird, Peruvian meadowlark, pied-billed grebe and great grebe.

The trip was organised by Gunnar Engblom of www.kolibriexpeditions.com based in Lima, Peru.
