Simple Sweep Picking Lesson (With Tabs)

An intro to sweep picking which explains how to do two patterns, as well as some useful tips. This video is a good guide for beginners in sweep picking. Here are the tabs for the two patterns in the video:

@ProdigyGuitarPlayer this is called tube overdrive, and this still clips the sound waves, thus compressing them.

@ThaThing1337x I looked up your amp, and saw some pics of it. The gain knob is the same as a distortion knob. I would set it to one of the distortion channels and just adjust the gain until you find what works for you. Sweep picking really should have distortion, but if clean works for you, then do what you feel comfortable with. For the pattern, it may take a lot of practice. Just do it slowly, picking each note, then gradually speed up until you have the pattern down.

The deal is not realy the amount of distorion, but I do find it easier to sweep with a cleaner sound to avoid a complete mess.

Anyway, I got a Cube-30X (Roland).

What bothers me is that I do hit the G strin twice in this pattern, or else I gotta slow down a bit and stay focused on changing sweep direction correctly as I sweep.

But guess it's all practice...

@ThaThing1337x Well what brand is your amp? Fender, Line6, Marshall, VOX, etc.... If I know the brand/type, i may be able to help you better. All amps should have a way to adjust the settings. As for the pattern, I'm still not totally clear on what you mean. I do a downstroke through all of the notes, hammer on and pull off the high E string, then do a upstroke to the B and G. Just watch the video carefully and if you still have any questions, feel free to ask.

I don't have an amp like that.

I can choose between different modes like metal, acoustic tec. but not the amount of distortion.

Also, I forgot what I was talking about in the previous comment, but I think what I meant was that I had problems picking the B string before starting over the patterns at the G string.

The way I sweep: (a regular 3 string sweep): Upstroke,upstroke,upstroke, downstroke, pulloff, downstroke.

However, this isn't a problem in 4+ string sweeps.

@12captainamazing It's a Gibson SG, but not an official Gibson one because those cost over $2000. Mine says Gibson/Baldwin on the back- It uses all Gibson Hardware, but it is manufactured by Baldwin. It's pretty cheap, so it's not as high quality as a real SG. However, it still has great tone and playability. I really like it.

@ThaThing1337x Well, what kind of amp do you have? Depending on the amp, differend levels may be needed. I usually like to set my distortion around a 7 or 8. As far as the pattern, do you mean the 1st or second one?
