Connection Differences Can Get You Killed

Just an example from a recent match on how connection quality can affect a player's gameplay. In this example you see me spot an enemy and get shot and die in less than half a second. With the video on a timeline I measured the number of frames of firing that appeared on my screen; 14 frames. Then, on the kill-cam you can see the enemy player spot me and fire into me much longer and eventually kill me. I measured the number of frames of gunfire in the kill-cam footage and it was 42 frames. So essentially, the enemy player was firing at me for a second and a half but I only saw him firing at me for less than half a second (he actually fired at me for 3 times longer than my screen showed).

He had 4-bars and I had 3-bars in terms of our connection qualities. Obviously as you saw from my POV I had no chance against the other player. I spotted him, began to raise my rifle, and was dead before I could get a shot off, but from his point of view I had plenty of time to fire. So for all you CoD4 players who like to say that there is no lag in CoD4, you're wrong. Even if you have a 3-bar green connection you can be in big trouble against a player with a 4-bar connection.

This is why I dropped out of competitive gaming. It's not really an issue with the game, it's more about location and distance from the host. When I compete at LAN's (CoD or Halo) I rip people apart, but online it just depends on the host for me. Like DOUBLEAERO said, if the lag is bad and you're at 3 green bars, people will just say you suck .. and most of them would get owned in a LAN setting.

Also, I know you probably think you're really good just because you play on Gamebattles, but I've played on Gamebattles and a bunch of other competitive sites, and in tournaments (online and LAN) as well. I even took 2nd place on the televised Spike TV CoD3 Bootcamp Challenge. I'm very good at this game but I'm disadvantaged by where I live. I smoke people like nothing on a LAN, but it's harder online because I lag a lot.

What I was pointing out in this video is that 3 green bars doesn't mean you're not lagging. It's less lag than yellow or red bars, for sure, but with 3 green bars you're usually still lagging a bit. It's just not as noticeable because it's not as extreme.

Well apparently you didn't read the "more info" for the video. I wasn't slow. On my screen I died when the first bullet hit me. On the other guy's screen he was shooting me for like a second and a half before I died. That's like 2/3 of a clip in a P90. Sorry, but that's a classic case of lag.

I argued this very point a year or 2 ago on activision forums and got flamed to hell. These idiots with good connections really think they are GOOD. If this ever gets fixed I can see a lot of people selling their xbox and never playing FPS games again after they get a look at their REAL skill level. See my video response.

I have stopped playing MW3 just due to this problem. For some reason i always have a 2 or 3 bar and it leaves me with a couple second delay on what i see. Ill unload a clip in a guy and he will win the gunfight, then on the kill cam it looks like i didnt even get a shot off.

Its unplayable for me, which is infuriating.

Ive never had such bad lag on a game and my internet isnt that slow.

its so true...90% of the people who think theyre so good are wrong..its all about the connection..they wont believe it(they think theyre "skilled" no matter what connection theyre using) but theyre wrong..i know it seems like a meaningless thing but in a game like cod(and other fps's)a fraction of a second can mean life or death..i bet you that 60% of people that play it and get good scores would totally suck if everybody would had as good of a connection as they do..

dude... i have this ALL the time... the kill cam makes me tear out my hair... lets say a dude snipes.. and i spot him.. he sits down behinde a object so i cant see him.. and he pops up and BOM.. i saw him for 1 mili second.. on the kill cam he used like 2 sec... and im not hitting when im suppose to... so a weapon i cant use is Sniper.....

I KNEW I was right, I thought this through and proved to myself the day I bought my 360 which was 2 weeks ago, I'd like to see the "pros" play on a 1red bar connection. They'd rage quit and anhialate their conntrollers. Us people who live on a modest 2yellow bar connection are the ones who are good, because with lower connection requires more skill, and any fucker who disagrees with me i'll start a war with them cuz I know in my mind that i'm right.
