Kanye is bringing real hip-hop back to the mainstream. I've just about had enough soulless, tin can , keyboard beats.

Listen to Pete Rock and CL Smooth track called The Basement. Kanye might've sampled the first 10 seconds of that song for Runaway, but this right here might be were it originated from so they credited the sample to Backyard Heavies.

this really doesn't sound like runaway cause the piano lead is what made runaway stand out musically, and everything else felt like it was build on top of the lead, and as for chords, artist use the same chords all the time, look at how many bands tried to copy green day, and green day copied from other forms of punk as well but it really doesn't matter, long as the music is vibable

Kanye sampled the drum break from The Basement by Pete Rock and CL Smooth. But Pete Rock did not CREATE that drum break. Pete Rock sampled that drum break from this song. Therefore Backyard Heavies is getting credit for Runaway, not Pete.

Kanye did not credit pete rock in the production for runaway. Surely this would've meant pete rock would've been pissed at kanye for biting him but then crediting backyard heavies? That's not the case though kanye isn't stupid and is able to get the drum break himself kanye and pete rock even worked on The Joy. A joint that was produced after runaway. Runaway had first premiered before it came out pete rock and kanye are on good terms obviously. So no i do not think kanye bit off pete rock

I must say, whoever chopped up the drums from the Pete Rock track did a well good job. I still can't make the correlation between the two

The drums man.You have to listen.Of course it's not the form because you have to chop the drums and pan the piano out of there to get an open sound.
