Lago di Garda - Gardasee - Lake Garda - Tour di Garda

Garda, il cui nome deriva da "warda" (guardia, vedetta), vanta di aver dato il nome, nel XII secolo, all'intero lago di Garda, che fino ad allora era chiamato Benaco.
Situata in uno splendido golfo dominato dalla Rocca di Garda, con i resti di una antica fortezza, conserva un interessante nucleo abitato, con case antiche, volti, vicoli e piazzette.
La pesca, attività economica predominante negli anni scorsi, riveste tuttora una certa importanza e vive in spettacolari manifestazioni quali la "Sardellata al Pal del Vò", che ha luogo in Luglio, durante la notte del plenilunio.
L'entroterra è ricco di una vegetazione rigogliosa con stupende passeggiate ed itinerari ciclabili che salgono per le pendici dei monti che racchiudono il golfo e dai quali la vista sull'intero lago è magnifica.

Garda (from Warda = guard, lookout, place of observation post, survillance etc.) is positioned at the centre of an ample gulf, between "La Rocca" and "Punta S. Vigilio".
Garda has a characteristic town centre, with old rustic houses, winding lanes and small squares. Fishing is still quite important and kept alive by spectacular festivals one of which is the "Sardellata al Pal del Vò" (a sardine feast), that is held in July, during the evening of the full moon, on the lake.
The vast hinterland offers a great number of interesting walks/hikes and a wide range of sports.

Garda hat dem Gardasee im 12. Jh. den Namen gegeben. Der See hieß bis zu jener Zeit Lacus Benacus. Zu Füßen der Rocca, die sich 309 m über den See erhebt, öffnet sich die weite Bucht, an deren Rand sich das Städtchen Garda entwickelt hat. Über Jahrhunderte war Garda ein malerisches Fischerstädtchen.
Quirliges Leben und Treiben herrscht nun in den malerischen Gassen der Altstadt mit ihren alten Bogengängen und Stadttoren, Geschäften, Restaurants und Bars.
Heute ist der Fischfang aber immer noch wichtig und wird von der Fischergemeinschaft ausgeführt und mit spektakulären Veranstaltungen wie der "Sardellata al Pal del Vò", in der Vollmondnacht im Juli, gefeiert. Das mittelalterliche Ortsbild zeugt noch von längst vergangenen Zeiten.
