Each week thousands of live cattle undertake a three week journey from the Amazon port of Belem in Brazil to Beirut in Lebanon.

Cattle are crammed into trucks in the burning Amazon heat. For four days they will be unable to move or lay down and will receive no food or water. Those that fall are trapped and injured. At the ship, the use of electric prods for loading further distresses the weakened cattle. Crushed against unfamiliar animals, the cattle can injure each other in their agitation. Heat stroke, trauma and respiratory disease will all be killers on the seventeen day voyage.

On arrival in Lebanon, cattle are often slaughtered in inhumane ways that violate religious requirements. After weeks of needless animal suffering the consumer is misled into believing the meat is Halal. Humane slaughter close to home, would not only end the cruelty, it would create jobs in Brazil.

  • There is a hard choise here.

We are taling about Lebanon not Swiss!

If they improve the "conforts", the costs will rise.

People will pay much more for meat.

So... What about "humans right" like acess to food...

  • hmm, steak...

  • hooah181 Please try not to be an asshole

  • Why that long trip? send it in packages.

  • people-the masters of life and death

i belive that everyone one day pay for all the pain he did to every leaving creature

including eating meat because nowadays we are aware how it is doing

  • yall like burger king and mc donolds and steaks right???? so everyone shut the fuck up or starve

  • The real fact is that people understand what they see and there is nothing to say that transport of live animals is right.

Only the ranchers who make the money would say otherwise.

    Sums it up doesnt it.

  • I care more about animals than I do Muslim scum

  • I agree with phaestor, the man knows nothing about what he's talking about. A truck like that one shown in the video takes no more than 20 fat cattle of over 450 kg each, and not 30, like stated by Mr. Meirelles... Nice video, poor arguments...

  • Some of these animal lovers are so rediculous. They care more about animals than they do human beings. I think we have more serious issues in the world than how cows are killed.
