Mount Vernon Mayor Rips Police Commish On Tape
MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (CBS) ―

Mount Vernon Mayor Clinton Young, The mayor of Mount Vernon is mouthing off about his police commissioner, offering up some harsh and profane words that were all caught on tape.

For Mayor Clinton Young, it's the lunchtime conversation that's causing political indigestion. Young was secretly recorded by businessman Sam Zherka. Last fall, Zherka was arrested at City Hall after a dispute with the mayor's chief of staff. Zherka thought police commissioner David Chong mishandled the case, so he took Young to an Eastchester restaurant to suggest Chong be fired.

"They're lying to my ***ing face," Young is heard saying. "He's a horrible ****ing guy."

Instead of defending his commissioner, the mayor says he'd like to get rid of Chong, but can't use the Zherka dispute as justification.

"I can't fire him based on that. I gotta fire him based on the fact I got more freakin' murders. So that's what'll get his a**," he said.

On tape, Young says he wants to catch Chong by surprise.

"I don't want him to see the s*** coming. M*********ing guy, I tell you," he said.

Mount Vernon officials were none too thrilled by the tape.

"They would never expect their leader, chief executive officer, to use that language," said Democrat District Leader Samual Rivers.

Rivers said the audio puts Young in a bad light and Chong in a bad spot.

"It makes it tough, you have to see your boss every day, knowing how he feels about you. He'll say one thing to your face,but you know how he really feels about you behind your back," he said.

Zherka ended up suing both Mayor Young and police commissioner Chong. Because of those lawsuits, neither man would comment for this story.

Zherka, who owns newspapers that endorsed Young, said he recorded the conversation to "protect himself." He said he and the mayor have since had a falling out.

Commissioner Chong has made big difference in the town in Mount Vernon a city that is plaqued with so much crime. I am so sorry to hear about the negativity that was placed on Comissioner Chong.

What a shame! Commissioner Chong is doing a great job! Perhaps the relationship has gotten better since the "freakin murders" have ceased. The Police Commissioner has no control over "murders" my goodness he didn't do it.
