OK I know I look like a miserable git in this but this video was so much of a logistical nightmare that I was somewhat rattled by the time it came to actually play some music!

This is a Republic Resonator modelled after a National Single Cone with a Senheisser Trumpet Microphone. I recorded via a tone port UX2.

The guitar is tuned DADF#AD and thats a glass slide. The sepia tone look was a great idea at the time!

Anyway I restrung the Republic with 16 Guage resophonics and have to say that as a Nationa alternative it is an amazing instrument for the price. The tone is amazing the aged look is incredible and the reaction to it at gigs has been well worth the asking price.

If you're dithering between other brands (Johnson and Harley Benton) cut to the chase and get this. They are quality!

  • this is great

  • @sek8 They're always pretty fresh. It's nearly two years ago now but things I've learned since:

    1. Don't EQ the brightness out of a resonator, its meant to record dirty and raspy.

    2. Glass slide is more mellow than brass or chrome

  • change your strings mate.

  • @slideharp1 Thanks!
