Simon Phillips at his drum clinic in the RSAMD in Glasgow, Scotland. Here he demonstrates how to play the famous "Rosanna" groove by Toto, first played by the late, great Jeff Porcaro.

  • glad i found this....I worked with a drummer years ago, young guy named "Andy Bond". He sadly died at a very young age..but he could play this groove as good as the original. It never ceased to amaze us how tight and fluid he was and I feel kind of privileged to have played with him.

    Cheers Andy.

  • @groovei Cheers for sharing this Andy. It ws good to hear from you. Rob.

  • I don't care what kind of style he play with Jeff's Rosanna groove, because I'm listening to Simon Phillips' style, not Jeff Porcaro's style. Make a comparison between them is unworthy for me.

I must say, that only Simon can sit in Toto's drum position replacing Jeff. He is the one and only a perfect replacement of Jeff. Listen to his style. He can successfully gives the best for Toto, with HIS OWN style, not copying Jeff's style. Steve Lukather picks a right drummer! Simon is the best!!

  • @pwngrinder of course he's not playing eights! why would you want to?? he's still playing the shuffle triplet but he's accenting eight notes!!

  • Much as I respect Simon, his version of Rosanna isn't a schuffle grove, It's a rock grove. When he plays, this to me out of respect for Jeff he doesn't even go near it. Long live ToTo and Simon thanks for keeping their dream alive. Jeff we miss you.

  • @Bergamasco2958.... popular guy!

  • @palatica, well said. (In comparison to the idiot Zak Starkey at The Who who never can replace the great Keith Moon.)

  • too slow

  • @Bergamasco2958 Wow man, I was just looking at your channel, and am baffled. You are a two faced fuck. An educated musician one day, and imbecilic fuckwit the next. Make up your mind you pathetic twat.

  • @Bergamasco2958 lol you're a funny guy. Simon sounds like shit? You don't understand anything about drumming, do you? hahahaha....

  • There's a real bunch of ignorant arseholes leaving negative comments about Simon Philips not being able to groove. If he's that shit, why would Toto have asked him to be their drummer after JP sadly died-c'mon guys, don't be such TOOLS

  • @Bergamasco2958 LOL.........ummmm, Mr. Genius......He's not playing a solo, he's playing/demonstrating the drum part to Toto's " Rosanna....... Hint, the title to this clip, & the info listed about it.......!!!! :-/

  • Not taking anything away from the guy - most amazing technical drummer - but no pocket... no FEEL

  • Groove??? You guys must be joking. That is just about as unmusical as one can get. I have heard 10 year olds play better.
