Orthodox-Jewish preparations for Yom Kippur in Israel

In Jerusalem ultra-Orthodox Jews were waving chickens above their heads in a symbolic ritual of transferring their sins to the birds in preparation for the Jewish holiest holiday of Yom Kippur. In Tel Aviv worshippers were throwing bread crumbs into the sea in a symbolic gesture seeking God's forgiveness for their sins.
On the Day of Atonement, the holiest day of the Jewish year, Jews fast and pray for forgiveness for the sins they have committed. During Yom Kippur airports, rail and road transport, broadcasters, government offices and businesses will shut, and all manner of work is forbidden.
