What you should have done is -
When mario jumps over you, press down and B so it does the light bolt thingy. It normally blasts them right off the screen in one go!

i've been trying to get better with mario now after watching your vids, taking me quite alot of practice...just have a hard time landing the right moves at the right time, got any certain tips?

Well go with attacks that work in the right situations. A very good move for Mario is his bair attack (back aerial attack) because of its combo potential, distance, and speed (not bad at killing too). Practice is the best thing. Just get to know your character.

oh and nice hitting the guy with 1 fireball to KO, i'm guessing that was pure luck lol.

lol, the opponent didn't think that he'd get hit by it so by the time he realized he was hit and didn't grab ledge, he couldn't recover. Luck that I got a kill out of it, but I did mean for that to happen.

That would be Mario's forward A aerial attack in the air, or his fair (f air). If used at the correct time, the move spikes opponents.
