To play devil's advocate here: in spite of the obvious incentives of companies like Google and Facebook to misuse our personal information for profit, what about the potential benefits that analysis of massive amounts of raw data could bring. If any of those who have access to such massive amounts of data use it for purposes other than merely commercial or security concerns--such as furthering ourk nowledge of human behavior, then it could represent a historic opportunity.
