Please read this: This is not a speedrun, but rather a playthrough, where I only play the level through.

Now for something a bit different from Castlevania boss battles, I did a playthrough of the only Ninja Gaiden game for the Gameboy, strangely enough, the game bears a huge resemblance to Shadow of the Ninja (US) AKA Blue Shadow (EU) AKA KAGE (JP) for the NES made by Natsume. The sound effects are mostly same, music is definitely Iku Mizutani-Kouichi Yamanishi-style (and the last boss music is just a remixed version of the last boss music in Shadow of the Ninja), they composed a lot of music on games made by Natsume, the plot was laid out very similarly compared to Shadow of the Ninja's, the opening is exactly the same type, it's basically a sequel to Shadow of the Ninja with Ninja Gaiden-related stuff added, such as the main character being Ryu Hayabusa, the opening cutscene was talking about Jaquio "not being awakened yet" and Ryu uses a Ninpo attack shown in the NES Ninja Gaidens as well, I don't remember the name of it though.

Now, with all that stuff said, I present to you the opening cutscene and the first stage of Ninja Gaiden Shadow (US) AKA Shadow Warriors (EU) AKA Ryukenden Matenro Kessen (JP).

  • Hah, stage one sounds like Shadow of the Ninja. Are most of the songs in this game the same as NGII?

  • There are a few NG tracks in the game but I think most of the tracks are originals.

  • Ninja Gaiden is the shit.

  • @RyonaRaine well shit go and play kage aka shadow of the ninja because thats where this game originally came from, where you can either play as male or female ninja... or invite a friend for 2P action!

all praise and credit should go to the original developers of this game which was natsume, not tecmo... it breaks my heart when people think this game had everything to do with ninja gaiden. :(

epic shit btw and the verybest title for the original gameboy

  • I'm playing this game right now and its so fun

  • Oh Lord, I remember this game, I used to spend too much time playing it, it was my favourite game when I was only a kid. all the memories.

  • "There's despair in the skyscraper" ...fuck yeah. This is possibly THE best Gameboy sidescroller ever. Well, along with Bionic Commando.

  • "There's dispair in the skyscraper."

    Say what?! XD

  • "Natsume began development of a Game Boy version of Shadow of the Ninja following the original NES release. However, the publishing rights of the game was were picked up by Tecmo and the title was subsequently revised as a Ninja Gaiden spinoff titled Ninja Gaiden Shadow. The Nagoya division of Natsume developed both Shadow of the Ninja and Ninja Gaiden Shadow."

We want Kage a.k.a Shadow of The Ninja back!

  • this has awsoem written all over lol even its name is cool

  • DAMN I mIss THIs GAME

  • @tentifero Actually this game was originally supposed to be an remake of the NES game Shadow of the Ninja, but Tecmo changed the name to Ninja Gaiden Shadow. Natsume developed and published this game for Tecmo. That's why it plays and sounds so similar to SOTN.
