Here is my 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham in triple black. I've had it for about 10 months and it has around 67,500 original miles. It's fully loaded with every option including moonroof and factory CD player (still not standard in 1996). It also has the gold emblem package. which really contrasts with the rest of the car. I got it from a dealership in the Chicago area after looking for this specific color combination and year for quite a while.

This car is undoubtedly the best I've ever owned. The Chevrolet-sourced LT1 requires so little effort to accelerate that the pedal feel seems at odds with the vague handling and cushy, soft ride. It absolutely floats over broken NYC streets and irons out almost every imperfection in the road. It comes off even better on the highway, where you absolutely cannot feel the road. The steering sort of firms up at higher speeds but it's still really, really light. The interior has enough room for six regular-sized Americans, something I enjoy even though I rarely have more than one person in the car at a time. I'm sure this would please Al Gore. Sometimes people find it amusing that I'm 24 and drive an "old man" car, until they ride in it. Then they usually fall asleep on the soft Brougham seats (which still smell new by the way).

It's a shame that GM doesn't build anything remotely close to this anymore and probably never will again. Someone needs to send them the memo that there is still a market for a full-size, rear-wheel drive domestic luxury car. I also own a 1996 Sedan Deville with 31K original miles, but it feels less substantial than the Brougham even though it has the Northstar and is fully optioned as well.

By the way, you really can get 23-26 MPG on the highway with the LT1 depending on how you accelerate and brake.

  • The only thing it still needs is rear shocks, but it's definitely not urgent and it's hard to even notice the shocks are wearing out because the suspension is pretty soft and buoyant to begin with. According to the dealership it can wait a few thousand more miles. Anyway, everything is now totally fixed and ready to continue to sit under a heavy duty cover in a temperature controlled garage for extended periods of time. Haha.

  • 3) The right front passenger window was going down sideways and wouldn't go back up. 4) The right front passenger seat was off kilter and was laying really low, almost flat to the floor. 5) The hood release latch was loose and needed to be tightened. 6) I had the power steering, coolant and transmission fluid all flushed and replaced. I also had the throttle body and fuel/emissions systems serviced. 7) I replaced the timing belt because it was 15 years and 68K miles old.

  • 1) The right front chrome fender panel (between the bumper itself and the wheel well) totally detached from the body and was popping in and out of place. I think this is common to this generation of Fleetwood. Even the Wikipedia Fleetwood Brougham page has a picture of one with the same problem. 2) There was a weird scraping noise coming from the left front wheel area because the plastic mud guard was cracked and rubbing against the chrome bumper...

  • Bear in mind, I had all of this work done at a Cadillac dealership. I know everybody recommends this shop or that shop, but after numerous questionable experiences (including another GM dealership that took 3 weeks to give me an estimate), I finally found a Caddy dealer with a very good service department and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. Okay, here's everything that I had to have fixed...

  • Thanks for all the comments and views. To answer the most popular question, I enjoy the car too much to really consider selling it. However, it did develop a number of problems since I posted this video. I'll run out of space in this comment but I'll outline exactly what I had to have done in a minute. Basically, the drivetrain components are very solid and reliable. However, many pieces of the trim needed to be fixed...

  • they dont make cars like this anymore sucks.

  • We have a 95 fleetwood and its just a dream

  • Nice Cadillac. I would take a fleetwood over any other new car out here 2 day. My first car was a 89 fleetwood my second car was a 94 fleetwood my 3rd car is a 91 caprice in now I'm looking at a 96 fleetwood.

  • that is my DREAM car i would take that over any car in the world!

  • I saw the same options today on a mint 95 or a 96 (Fold-able mirrors) Triple black WITH a sunroof. The car like yours was immaculate. After owning other B bodies (Impala SS and A wagon) I need a fleet wood to add to the collection! One day ill find a nice one

  • Does anyone know where I can buy one of these, does not have to be this color. But same year and model. I live in jacksonville, fl.

  • I got a 93 that was 73000 low miles but I blew the engine in it. Fellas make sure ur radiator cap is good, but I do love that black on black. I think Im going to paint mine just like that

  • Dam, this car is clean as shit. much bigger than the devilles. i got a 04. rides like its on a cloud

  • One of the nicest presentations I have seen. I had mine since close to when she was born in Arlington and have wanted to get her a new dress.I want to go black, but had not found a shade I liked until "Diamond Black" this year. I think I shall go to a slightly lighter vinyl; A little more gray as my intrior is dark blue. And no gold. The stainless and chrome are good for me.

My one extravagance will be minor tweaks to the bumpers. On the front and rear I shall be adding Dagmars.

    Thanx!
