Here's a really rare little documentary about the origins of glam and the "T Rex Sound". Enjoy!

And hey cats, keep a little Marc in your hearts!

  • I believe that is the correct date, you may need to dig a little deeper. However, 2005was the release date on my material. I hope that helps!

I know there are many documentaries out there that have been put together later than 2005 (for example, by Rolan Bolan), but much of the material used in these is pieced together from older vids. This particular one I have posted is 2005. Hope this helps! XXXX

  • Haven't read that one yet. Having hard time finding a coipy.

  • Got mine on Amazon...they're around, you might have to search a little. Mine is the updated version, I believe Paytress added more research around 2005 or so, based on new information that we know have about Marc. I got mine pretty cheaply, around $15 or so. Good luck, and it's a great read! XXXXX

  • Love the breakdown of Hot Love.

What year did this come out?

I remember seeing this someplace before youtube. Esp. like the part about repeat echo.

Tony's great guy. I'm going to read his bio again.

  • Hi there! I believe the documentary came out around 2005 or so. Tony's a really interesting and nice guy, I agree. Another great book you might enjoy is Mark Payless' biography of Marc called: "Bolan: Rise & Fall of a 20th Century Superstar". Fascinating reading and provides MANY insights into the man. Payless is a respected biographer, and his research is immaculate. Let me know if read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts! XXXX

  • Bolans songs were all superb

  • Bokans song did not become predictable. They were all superb

  • Where and when is this from - I'm guessing a bigger documentary series perhaps? My guess (judging by Tony's hair) is between 92 and 95. A BBC doc?

  • Where can I find the rest of this? Just as they segue into Bowie it's cut off =(

  • He did Bad Reputation (1977); Live & Dangerous (1978) and Black Rose (1979). Awesome sound on the two studio records. I wish Visconti had produced Jailbreak from 76 as it would have sounded huge...

Check out the clips from this period to hear how good he made them sound, particularly the drums and bass (which he tended to put some chorus effect on Phil's bass).

There's a book by Visconti which is pretty interesting, plus there's a free podcast thru itunes where he talks about T-Rex, Lizzy.

  • @DeluxeReissue

I had no clue Visconti had worked with Thin Lizzy, but I don't doubt it, T. Rex, Bowie, and Phil Lynott/Thin Lizzy are three of my favorite artists! As far as I know, he also scored all the T. Rex string parts, which is great.

  • What's the name of this documentary? I'm a huge glam rock fan and would love to watch a documentary on it.

  • Nice. There's a book out by Visconti for any producer-nerds out there. He not only developed the T-Rex sound, but worked with Bowie on some of his records in the mid 70s and 3 Thin Lizzy albums in the late 70s. He's an amazing producer.

  • How they broke down "Hot Love" reminded me of a show I have seen called "Classic Albums" where they feature an album of an artist and break it down and talk about the creation of each individual track. Wouldn't' it be cool if they did a Classic Albums show for Marc? I don't know which album of his they could break down, because in my opinion they all are great, but I think it would be really fascinating if they did that. :)
