I'm not a folk listener much. Heard him on radio while living hard on a commune. I was struck. Hard to imagine anyone doing what he did as good as he did it. The counter movement of voice and guitar in what for me are unique but authoritative fashion is perhaps impossible to duplicate. Glad to hear that sound again.
The quality of his arrangement and delivery put him in a very small group of musicians. He makes me feel like I'm there on the ship, or walking the fields of a land I've never seen.
His singing is brilliant, his guitar work so deceptively simple, but when you try to figure out how to play it (for a start, what tuning is he using???) you realise how skillful it really is. Nic, you are one of a kind.
One of my favourite songs by one of my favourite artists - great live version, but I do miss the piano from the vinyl version which adds to the plaintive atmosphere. Of all my vinyl collection, which i lost with my boat a few years ago, it's the full set of Nic Jones albums I miss the most ...thanks for uploading this
The way Nic sings the lines 'oh where are you bound' and 'in every part' is phenomenal. Why should a song that, on the surface at least, appears to be about a lover's reconcillation sound so sad and melancholic?
Whacker Whacker What a lovely Nic Jones song it has every thing, many thanks.I am the only one among friends & family that appreciates folk music,I love Martyn Wyndham-Read,Amazing Blondel, Paul Brady,Luke Kelly.Great stuff.
Thank you so much for posting this. Nic Jones was a fabulous singer and guitarist and it's such a shame that his early albums are no longer available.
MAGIC NIC JONES, This song by nic is so special, I have listened after a time away & if anything, it sounds even better!!

It's all been said before about this man. I'll say simply that he changed my life.
