An American Creed

There will be those, perhaps in government, who will say that this comedy album is offensive, outrageous and irresponsible. To those charges may we quote the words of that great iconoclast from Baltimore who chronicled earlier Washington scandals. "It is the duty of the satirist to be outrageous and to offend. It is the duty of the government to be responsible." When a nation ceases to laugh at its' foibles and mistakes, it ceases to be great. But because this IS a great nation it will survive Watergate, and indeed, this album.

  • The Watergate Comedy Hour - "The Watergate Seven" (Bob Ridgely, Jack Burns, Frank Welker, Jack Riley)

  • Great art survives its time and speaks to those not of its time and of conditions beyond it original context. By this definition this recording is great art. Who could have imagined Contragate, Monicagate, the Afghan and Iraqi, Pakistani, Libyian, Syrian, and Iranian wars, Guantanamo, "enhanced interogation", etc.

Listen and understand when presidential accountability to the electorate became a a very bad farce.

  • Thank you *so* much for posting this; it's a bastard to get ahold of; my dad's 8-track is lost to the winds. :-)

  • my dad said he made a tape like this one when this was all happening.he said he made it and brought it to school and played it in class and the teachers toke it up and called it obscene. and he never saw it again.but i'm not sure if thats true?

  • I have that album, It good to hear it.
