how would one valve work for a 4 stroke engine
123rcflyer 11 months ago
@123rcflyer
... the 1929/1930 Packard diesel radial aircraft engine did this (and you thought diesel airplanes were new) ...they did it by having the valve in the top of the head and a draft tube over it, fresh air would be inducted from the front then the valve would close, the compression stroke would take place, fuel would be injected, igniting and causing the power stroke to occur, then the valve would open again for the exhaust stroke and the exhaust would flow out the rear of the tube.

Very nice and I think very rare engine, looks also very reliable if cooled well and not overstressed.
If you say 2 stroke "U" type, do you mean two cylinders, two pistons but one common combustion chamber?
Very nice "lucky" sound too.

@XELA2T
No, "U type" is just a model designation....it is a twin cylinder, two stroke in the usual sense.

I have given a little bit of thought to doing just that...could use a cvt as in a snowmachine...but this is only 6-8 hp at 500-1000 rpm so it would mostly just put around. ...but it does have a great sound though.
