My aquaponics system had a set water level, and did not excel. Once I put the loop siphon on, the plants grew alot more vigorously and the fish were happier. I have a loop siphon instructional video on my page if you would try it out.

An opinion to share. I had an outdoor system in the tropics I had a 6 foot wide by 12 foot pond by 18 inches deep pool for tilapia. I used floating raft system for the plants. Tilapia does not need commercial feed or worms. They do fine on table scraps run through a blender or vegetable leaves. The only real problem is to ensure you have aeration when you use scraps for food. The weeds out of your sq. ft. garden could be fish food. Try putting more lime or egg/sea shells on for PH buffer

Drip irrigation with a timer for the squarefoot. When you mow the lawn face the mower away from the square foot as you will toss seeds to the garden ( I have done this ! ) :-) Excellent video I am doing both myself.
